Who we are

The Scots Language Centre (Scottish Charity No. SC021747, PO Box 12646, Bo'ness EH51 1AS) is responsible for this website and for any personal information described in this policy. Contact: info@scotslanguage.com.

What we collect when you browse

You do not need to give us any personal information to use this site. We do not ask you to register, and we do not sell, rent or share information for advertising.

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are popular, how people arrive at the site and what device types they use. This helps us improve the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your approximate location (country or city level), browser and device type, pages visited and the time spent on them. Your IP address is processed by Google to provide the service but is not stored or made available to us. We see only aggregated statistics and cannot identify individual visitors from them.

We have configured Google Analytics so that the data is used only to provide statistics to us.

Google may process this data on servers outside the UK. Google provides safeguards for such transfers under its data processing terms. More information: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Your consent, is given through our cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use a small number of cookies that the site needs to work, such as remembering your settings, and Google Analytics cookies that help us produce visitor statistics.

We only set analytics cookies if you agree to them through our cookie banner. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings.

If you contact us

If you email us, send a query or take part in a survey, we will hold the details you give us, such as your name and email address, to respond to you or provide what you asked for. We do not use them for anything else, and we do not share them with anyone else. Survey responses are collected and stored using Google Workspace, which processes them on our behalf under Google's data processing terms. We keep correspondence for two years unless we need it longer for an ongoing matter, and you can ask us to delete it sooner.

Embedded content

Some pages include videos, audio or maps from other services such as YouTube. These services may set their own cookies when you play or view the content. Their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not hold identifiable information about website visitors, we are usually unable to link analytics data to you. To exercise your rights, contact info@scotslanguage.com.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ or 0303 123 1113.

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
